Former India captain and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has praised wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for his hugely improved showing in the last couple of months. Pant scored a match-winning hundred in the fourth Test against England in Ahmedabad. Earlier, he scored an unbeaten 89 as India stunned Australia at the latter’s fortress, the Gabba. Pant, in fact, finished as the third leading run-getter in the India-England Test series, with 270 runs at an average of 54.

Team India opener Rohit Sharma has stated that Rishabh Pant can continue to bat the way he wants as long as he is doing the job for the team. He also requested critics to cut Pant some slack for his failures. The left-hander smashed 101 from 118 balls as India ended Day 2 of the Ahmedabad Test at 294 for 7, with a lead of 89.

He also stated that Australia learned a harsh lesson from the stinging defeat - never underestimate the tough players from India. At that point, he was the regular test keeper and though was in and out of the limited overs side, he had pretty much cemented his place in the team.

In the build up to the third T20I against Bangladesh at Nagpur, India’s skipper for the series, Rohit Sharma, had asked for struggling wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant to be left alone. "I just feel that he needs to be allowed to do what he wants to do on the field. I would request everyone to keep their eyes away from Rishabh Pant for a while," Rohit had said while speaking to the media.

Team India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant may be under fire from many quarters owing to his poor performances with both the bat and behind the stumps.
